This presentation focuses on the dramatic events both social and natural disasters that happened which culminated in the signing of The Civil Rights Act and putting North Florida on the map of inspiring social change. MLK, St. Augustine protests, Hurricane Dora and Bullet Bob Hayes are just a few of the highlights of this presentation.

Scott A Grant is a local expert historian on the dramatic events that happened on the First Coast during the Summer of 1964. Many famous people came together that Summer to protest and/or fight for desegregation. Grant is offering this detailed presentation to enthusiastic Cultural Center members.

Grant has been interviewed by local news and radio. His account was featured on the front cover of the Folio Weekly; on a broadcast by WOKV. Grant has spoken to local Rotary Clubs and is invited as a guest speaker at the Beaches History Museum, UNF’s Osher Lifelong Learning Program and The Florida Conference on History Education.

Bio

As a Cornell Graduate, Scott Grant has sharpened his expertise with some of the best. He is known, not only for his lively debate and detailed accounts of some of the most infamous events in local history, but as an excellent chess player and successful business owner. Grant studied economics and history at Cornell before working on Wall Street while earning a Law Degree from Rutgers. 12 years ago, Grant moved his family and his Investment Business, Standfast Asset Management, to Ponte Vedra Beach. It is at this time that Grant becomes enamored by some of the area's historical events. He enjoys sharing these facts with the public and loves meeting seniors that can remember first-hand accounts. By day Scott Grant handles almost 90 million in private investments. In his free time, you will find him researching at the libraries and museums for details to include in his next presentation.
