What is the Bridge Institute?
The Bridge Institute was established in 1999 with a generous gift from the Eleanor Wishart Charitable Lead Trust to provide a major speaker or program; one for adults and one for youth or children. The first event was Lorg George Carey, former archbishop of Canterbury. He spoked on controversy within the Anglican communion. Over the years, many notable speakers have visited Christ Church, including:
- Diana Butler Bass, author of Christianity After Religion
- Father Greg Boyle, author of Tattoos on the Heart and Barking to the Choir
- Bruce Feller, author of Walking the Bible and America's Prophet
- Ron Hall, author of Same Kind of Different as Me
- Jon Meacham, author of The American Gospel and Thomas Jefferson: The Art of Power
- Dr. Catherine Meeks, Founding Director of the Absalom Jones Center for Racial Healing
This October, the Bridge Institute is pleased to present the Reverend Ian S. Markham, the Dean and President of Virginia Theological Seminary (VTS) and President of the General Theological Seminary (GTS) and the author of numerous books including Faith Rules.
