The Beginners have a busy year at Christ Church Preschool, doubling their life span within their first year of school and experiencing innumerous new, engaging opportunities. Each child’s innate curiosity is cultivated as they learn and grow through new experiences and active involvement in their environment and with the people in their lives.
The curriculum at Christ Church Preschool provides a variety of sensory activities to stimulate each child’s awareness of the world around them, as well as beginning to engage with their peers through social and communication skills facilitated by our quality staff.
Beginners will experience plenty of one-on-one or small group time with their teachers and peers as they read books, sing songs, cuddle, and share in many other engaging experiences meant to build their knowledge of their world. As our youngest students begin their educational journey, we want them to know they are loved and learning is a fun process!
Program Offerings: Monday/Wednesday, Tuesday/Thursday, or Monday through Thursday, 8:30-12:00 with Stay and Play extended day until 2:00.
Stimulating their natural sense of wonder, the Toddlers curriculum provides for thematic studies that foster the tremendous growth in language and understanding of their world. Using open-ended activities and a well-planned environment, our staff nurture children through the process and joy of hands-on, active learning experiences. Much of this year focuses on fostering new found independence and self-help skills, as well as reinforcing ever-expanding language development.
Toddlers become more confident and independent as they mature into two year olds, while our teachers remain responsive to their unique developmental needs. With the expert guidance of our skilled teachers, each child’s development will be enhanced and enriched during this critical period of cognitive, physical, and social growth.
Program Offerings: Monday/Wednesday, Tuesday/Thursday, or Monday through Thursday, 8:30-12:00 with Stay & Play extended day until 2:00.
Wonder, exploration, play, and learning are all active parts of your two year olds day at Christ Church Preschool. The creative, supportive learning environment planned by our experienced staff allows children to be actively engaged in purposeful activities that will lay a solid foundation for their future with opportunities to develop self-confidence, instill a love of learning, and establish enthusiasm for new experiences through a combination of whole group instruction, center-based learning activities, and individualized attention.
Our thematic units foster the young learners’ sense of wonder by providing opportunities to engage in concrete learning experiences that are reinforced through play to lay the foundation as students mature into preschoolers. We nurture and support each area of a child’s development with intentional activities that are fun and engaging. Language skills continue to flourish through exposure to quality literature, emergent literacy skills, and communication with both peers and supportive teachers. The development of fine motor skills are a primary focus of the early childhood experience at Christ Church Preschool, preparing students for later successes in communication, reading, and writing.
During your two year old’s academic year, we are happy to reinforce any potty training you are working on at home, with the expectation that a child will be fully potty trained by the start of the Threes Program at Christ Church Preschool. We understand potty training is a process and accidents will happen when children are engaged or distracted. Some indicators that your child may be ready for potty training include consistently dry diapers (for the morning or after naps), the recognition of the need to go, recognition that their diaper is soiled and requests for the diaper to be changed, and interest in the potty. We are happy to reinforce what you are working on at home.
Program Offerings: Monday/Wednesday/Friday, Tuesday/Thursday, or Monday through Friday, 8:30-12:00 with extended day until 2:00 or 6:00 depending on your child’s level of potty training success.
Understanding that students enter preschool with very different strengths, the Threes Program at Christ Church Preschool strives to incorporate foundational skills, while exposing them to many new multisensory experiences that enable them to explore, create, build, sort, organize, pretend, and move, all while helping them learn best about the world around them.
Our enriched thematic curriculum is planned, implemented, and continually revised based on the individual needs of the students. Emergent literacy is fostered through the explicit introduction of letters, sound, and pre-reading skills, while math readiness is developed through activities and games of sorting, counting, classifying, and puzzles. Skills are sequentially introduced and reviewed, helping each preschooler better understand the natural order of the world and enabling them to find their own place within the community. Fine motor development is enhanced through center games, art experiences, and early writing instruction.
Children are expected to be fully potty-trained in the Threes Program, both consistently and independently using the restroom. We consider a child potty-trained when s/he is able to articulate the need to go to the bathroom (i.e., stop playing and go to the bathroom). Though we understand that accidents will happen, we will offer regular reminders to use the restroom while we acclimate to new school routines. If a child needs remediation in their bathroom habits, we will work with the family to ensure a successful transition into the preschool program.
Program Offerings: Monday/Wednesday/Friday or Monday through Friday, 8:30-12:00 with Extended Day extended day until 6:00.
Students in the Fours program meet 5 days a week, in preparation for the Kindergarten program. Although academics are introduced, it is through focused, play-based learning experiences around thematic units. These units continue to build on the foundation of education provided in early years at Christ Church Preschool, while also deepening the exploration of their community and world.
As students begin to receive more directed instruction to prepare them for their Kindergarten experience and beyond, the Fours Program adds Learning Without Tears handwriting and A-Z for Mat Man and Me literacy curriculums to their daily experience, continuing on the foundation they previously gained at Christ Church Preschool. Even though most pre-kindergartners are not reading conventionally, the skilled staff uses a plethora of tools to provide a strong foundation for reading and writing, wherein children take what they already know and pair it with new information, building on their readiness for more complex tasks. This enriched educational program is balanced with ample time for creativity, constructing, imagination, social skills practice, and many other activities essential to the healthy development of young children.
Program Offerings: Monday through Friday, 8:30-12:00 or 8:30-1:00 with Extended Day extended day until 6:00.
Children are given opportunities to explore, experiment, ask questions, make friends, and develop a true feeling of security and independence. Our aim is to nurture each child’s natural curiosity and to instill a love of learning, while getting them educationally and emotionally ready for elementary school beyond Christ Church Preschool. In addition to the Learning Without Tears handwriting curriculum, Kindergarten also incorporates Bridges Math, Open Court Reading, and Heggerty Phonics instruction into their daily experiences. These rich offerings, paired with the sensory experiences incorporated into daily routines in the Kindergarten classroom, build on the foundational skills they have accumulated during their time at Christ Church Preschool. These goals balanced with our primary focus of instilling executive functions, such as problem-solving, organizing, conflict resolution, and decision making, through structured, interactive learning experiences, provide students with the tools and encouragement to continue their natural desire to construct meaning in their world.
Program Offerings: Monday through Friday, 8:30-1:00 with Extended Day extended day until 6:00.
